A lack of qualified young professionals has been a problem for engineering companies in the Czech Republic. In our area, according to recent estimates, a further deficit of workers in the mechanical engineering sphere will amount to several dozen for each engineering company in the near future. In the greater Vsetin region, the shortage of professionals in this field is estimated to be in the hundreds.
The aforementioned problem was discussed on 12 April 2019 by representatives of the Mechanical Engineering Alliance in Schools at J. Sousedik SOŠ. These meetings of school- and local-company-management representatives are conducted regularly. According to the HR Department Manager, Mrs. Jitka Šimarová, Ing., who was took part in the Alliance for the first time this year, the people present tried to find answers to questions such as, “How can we motivate primary school pupils to be more interested in mechanical engineering subjects?”.
Furthermore, school management, with Mr. Marek Wandrol, Mgr. as Principal, informed the companies of the opportunities for scholarships for talented pupils and of possibilities for material support for the purpose of professional training. Professional experience and part-time jobs at companies during holidays were also subjects of interest.
Both the school and the companies agreed to continue cooperation in these areas:
At the end of April, this meeting will be followed by another event in which we will participate as well. There, we would like to offer job opportunities in our company to senior secondary students.
As an expression of gratitude, the representatives of participating companies were given beautiful gingerbread eggs made by students of confectionery.
