HZS (State Fire Emergency Services) at ISS

The firefighters were not reacting to an emergency, but rather the visit was a preventative measure aimed at acquainting all firefighters from HZS Vsetin with our Locations. The grounds and individual buildings of ISS are divided into many parts and orientation in such buildings is not easy. Therefore, the firefighters visited the production facilities and warehouses at all Locations. Important places were visited both in terms of the fire emergency support (hydrant placements, firewater retentions, divisions of buildings into fire sections, fire escapes and the rescue areas) and for safety reasons. Buildings used for the production of explosives typically contain one exhaust wall, which allows gas to escape in the event of an explosion. These places are dangerous.

In addition, there is used large amounts of diverse chemical substances at ISS and, therefore, the firefighters were informed of possible hazardous reactions. For instance, in the case of powdered metals combustion, this kind of fire must only be extinguished with dry extinguishers. If water is used, the flammable hydrogen prevents extinguishing and can create an explosive concentration.

The result of this irregular visit is a much-improved understanding of the various dangers that exist in our facilities. Simultaneously, the firefighters are aware of the buildings’ locations and their internal layouts, which will lead to quicker responses in the event of fire emergencies.
