The campaign is organised by SPCCH v ČR, z.s., ZO ONKO DUHA VSETÍN, with financial support from INDET SAFETY SYSTEMS a.s. The campaign is held in SPCCH Week to coincide with international Breast Health Day, which takes place on 15 October 2017.
Women from ONKO-DUHA took to the streets and visited offices, organizations and even schools in Vsetín and other areas within the district to hand out leaflets containing important information about the prevention of oncological diseases. They also gave out small presents that contained, in addition to a sticker, a small package of garden cosmos seeds, the flower that has become the symbol of this event in Vsetín. The ONKO-DUHA members also try to use their experience and knowledge to educate the public about the importance of health care and preventive medical examinations. They also try to inform people of the necessity of self-examinations and reacting to any unexpected changes in the body.
“It seems that this event, as well as The Czech Day Against Cancer held in May, is becoming more known within the local population. We are pleased that the number of women who regularly come for mammograms is also increasing along with the number of residents, including men, who understand the fact that early detection is the key to the effective treatment of any disease. However, it is regrettable that our constantly rushed lifestyles often result in the inability to stop for a while to make time for ourselves. Health should be the most important issue for us since the wellbeing of our families depends on it”, observed ZO ONKO-DUHA Vsetín’s chairwoman, Ms. Marie Novosadová, as she evaluated the event.
