The Czech final even welcomed international attendees as there were also two schools from Slovakia, specifically, from Bratislava and Prešov. A total of 14 schools, which were divided into 24 teams, competed with each other. Each school had its own representative teams in the categories of younger and older pupils that competed in five disciplines. The traffic competition program was spread over two days. On the first day, the competitors had to demonstrate to the committee their cycling skills, how they work with a map and, finally, riding according to the rules of the road. The indoor swimming pool in Valašské Meziříčí was available for all competitors in the afternoon. The rental of the facility was financed by INDET SAFETY SYSTEMS a.s. The young competitors gained strength in the pool for the following day of competition, on which they had to pass tests connected with the rules of the road and first aid.
The both days were rounded out with a celebration of the announced results and the distribution of prizes in the host school’s beautifully ornate chapel. The mood was electric during the award ceremony. It was obvious that the children enjoyed the competition. The “local” children were especially pleased since both of their teams reached the podium. The younger pupils won first place and the older pupils placed second. The sponsors were also thanked with the presentation of a small thank-you gift. The organizer evaluated the whole event very positively – the weather was kind to us and the competitors´ determination and desire to win were clearly on display for all to see.
It must be mentioned that the event was held under the auspices of the Zlin Region and the Town of Valašské Meziříčí in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic – BESIP, Center of Services for Road Traffic, the regional coordinator of BESIP for the Zlin Region, Police of the Czech Republic in Vsetin, Municipal Police in Valašské Meziříčí and with the Czech Red Cross.
