The 6th Valachia Cup international tournament in traditional karate took place at the Na Lapači gymnasium on 22 April 2017. The Vsetín Police Sports Club and ALCEDO – free time center Vsetín were the main organizers.
The event is traditionally at a high level and this year 322 competitors registered in total from the Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine. Some of them hold current world championship titles in several categories. This time they competed in kumite (one-to-one contactless match) and kata (a mock fight with an imaginary rival). Despite the fact that there should be no contact between the contestants in kumite, there were a few incidents that required medical attention. Thankfully, however, it was nothing too serious and the tournament could continue.
The Vsetín Traditional Karate Club managed to win 19 medals in total, which proves its high caliber. INDET SAFETY SYSTEMS a.s. (ISS) has been supporting this contest since 2014 and we pride ourselves on being its sponsor. The event was attended by Jiří Kopecký (CP Dept.) and Renata Holá (CP Dept.) for ISS who, together with Jiří Růžička (the mayor of Vsetín), welcomed the contestants and the audience with a few words. The host and karate coach Radek Kleibel then opened the tournament.
