In the Shadow of a Sakura – A Reading

The second in a series of events as part of the A Year on the Road program organized by the Masaryk Public Library in Vsetín was a reading (discussion) titled In the Shadow of a Sakura – Flying through the world of books, which took place on 23 March 2017.
Several popular Japanese authors were introduced including Yasunari Kawabata, the first Japanese writer to win the prestigious Nobel prize for literature; Haruki Murakami, probably the best known and most renowned of contemporary authors; and Yasutaka Tsutsui, whose many novels have been adapted into popular animated movies. The American author Ingrid J. Parker, who pens detective novels set in feudal Japan, was also introduced during the event.
The final novelist was Keigo Higashino. An excerpt from his detective novel, The Devotion of Suspect X, was read in Czech as well as in the original Japanese version by S. Moriyoshi (CP Dept.) as the representative of INDET SAFETY SYSTEMS a.s., a supporter of the event.
For reading enthusiasts this was a great opportunity to get acquainted with Japanese literature. Furthermore, the library prepared a small exhibition of their selection in order that those interested might borrow recommended readings.
