The Night Outside event took place on 4 November 2016 on the grounds of the Vsetín Chateau. Its purpose was to address citizens concerning the issue of homelessness and to support services that care for people without homes. This is a national event and was observed for the second time in the Vsetín region. Two local organizations manage the event – Azylový dům pro ženy a matky s dětmi o.p.s. (a shelter home for women and mothers with children) and ELIM Vsetín o.p.s. (a non-profit organization).
Apart from sleeping outside on cardboard, Night Outside offered a rich program featuring a children’s play, a concert by the Alcedo children’s band, screening of real-life stories of people who spend their time in shelters, an exhibition of photographs from the field, selling of handmade items and of refreshments. 146 people in total attended the event and brought 100 kg of perishable goods for those in need (the entrance fee was a donation of food worth 50 CZK). 13 sleepers had the courage to stay overnight and sleep outside in the 7°C temperature.
