On 15 October 2015, you will have the opportunity to meet women from the ONKO-DUHA organization, who will be wearing yellow T-shirts in the streets of Vsetín, Valašské Meziříčí and surrounding towns. They will be warning people of the dangers of oncological diseases, breast cancer in particular, by distributing pamphlets and trinkets. This event focuses on precautions and its purpose is to emphasize good prognoses and early treatment.
15 October is International Breast Health Day initiated by EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition and, in the Czech Republic, by the Aliance žen s rakovinou prsu, o.p.s. (Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer), which cooperates closely with Vsetín’s ONKO-DUHA. “With this event, we would like to draw attention to the fact that our health is primarily in our own hands and it is, therefore, necessary to think of prevention and to take advantage of all services provided by our healthcare system.” said Marie Novosadová of ONKO-DUHA.
The global symbol of the fight against breast cancer is the pink ribbon, for which this event has been named in our region. The garden cosmos flower has become the symbol of Pink Ribbon Day.
Today, breast cancer among women is one of the most serious epidemic problems in the Czech Republic, every year roughy 6500 new cases of this disease are diagnosed. “The women of the ONKO-DUHA organization know the mistakes they’ve made, the things they’ve neglected to do and the things they’ve done to save their own lives. And this is what they want to share with you.” said Mrs. Novosadová.
The event is organized with special assistance from INDET SAFETY SYSTEMS a.s., which also promotes this day among all its employees.
