The 2014 Seminar took place in Plzeň. It was divided into two main parts – Professional Presentations and Competitions. The professional part was held on 23rd June 2014 and
one of the topics presented by ISS was The Future of Pyrotechnic Systems in Vehicles.
A competition was held on Tuesday, 24th June 2014, which was attended by the 14 best professional firefighter teams from various regions in the Czech Republic and one enterprising team of firefighters. The task of the four-member teams was to extract an injured person from
a crashed car, safely and effectively, within fifteen minutes, provide emergency treatment and transport the patient to a simulated ambulance. A different scenario was prepared for each team, but all of them simulated realistic traffic accidents which firefighters encounter during interventions.
The retrieval of injured people from crashed vehicles is highly specialized activity. The only individuals equipped to deal with these special rescue operations are firefighters.
