ISS Supports Valachia Cup 2016

On 14 May 2016, the 6th annual international tournament in traditional karate, the Valachia Cup 2016, took place at the Lapač Sports Hall in Vsetín. This year the contest was again organized by the Sportovní klub policie Vsetín (a police sports club for children and youngsters) and Alcedo – středisko volného času Vsetín (a leisure center for children). Representatives of INDET SAFETY SYSTEMS a.s. (ISS) attended the event as part of their long-term cooperation and support of karate in Vsetín.

Mr. Shinya Moriyoshi (Corporate Planning Department Manager) wished the contestants the best of luck during the opening ceremony and expressed excitement in the growing popularity of karate in Vsetín and the Czech Republic as well as in the whole of Central Europe.

This year, 374 contestants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine participated in the tournament, which is the largest number of participants since the contest was established. It is a significant increase since last year, when the number was 247.

Each contestant was rewarded with a small prize and the best took home medals. The contestants who placed first won a Walachian Cup trophy. Vsetín’s martial artists were not to be denied and managed to win 15 medals.

ISS supports karate within its CSR activities (corporate social responsibility). The main conception of the cooperation is to contribute to the expansion of the Japanese culture in Vsetín and its surroundings.

*Karate, or “empty hand” originated in Okinawa, the largest island in the chain of islands forming the Ryukyu Kingdom. Today, it is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan. This martial art expanded onto the Japanese mainland at the beginning of the 20th century and, after WW2, it expanded to the western world as well. It is commonly believed that karate has it origins in Japan, however, as is indicated above, this is not entirely correct. Nevertheless, it is certain that today karate has gained popularity all over the world.
